Like other elements of the house or office floor needs to be cleaned thoroughly and properly. Caring and cleaning of hard surfaces like floors should be done consistently to maintain the shine and look. In Auckland, floors, especially in offices, gather dust and dirt easily. Thus businesses hire professional cleaners who are experts in floor and tile cleaning in Auckland. These experts use various methods for cleaning different types of floors such as wooden floors, tile, vinyl or stone floors. Here are ways in which you should clean different types of floors.

Wooden floors

After installing wooden floors, they are usually coated with polyurethane or wax to give them a smooth finish. This type of coating is done to protect the floor from dirt, stains, and water.

Sealed wood floors with urethane, polyurethane or polyacrylic coating should be cleaned using mild soap and water. A microfiber mop is used to squeeze out dirt, and then the floor is left to dry. High traffic areas such as reception should be cleaned consistently.

Experts suggest not to use water while cleaning waxed wood floors as such floors are easily damaged by even small amounts of water. Waxed wooden floors should be cleaned by sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming them regularly.

Vinyl Floor

Vinyl flooring is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and is designed to withstand stubborn stains and dirt. Like other types of floor, vinyl flooring requires proper care and maintenance. A mix of 1/4 cup vinegar with 1 drop of dish soap and warm water is perfect for cleaning vinyl floors. Wipe it with a damp microfiber mop. Vinegar easily removes dirt without leaving patches of soap. Adding a few drops of baby oil to the cleaning solution would help add shine to your floor. In addition, periodic deep cleaning should be done to maintain and give floors a fresh and new look. Proper maintenance of floors helps to increase their life.

Tile floor

Tile floors, even though they are durable, should be cleaned gently. Tile and grout both require thorough cleaning and maintenance to give your floor a spotless clean look. Different tiles such as ceramic, porcelain, slate, marble, and granite or limestone are used to build and design the floors.

Ceramic and porcelain tiles are low on maintenance and can be cleaned easily by sweeping and vacuuming. Clean the tile with mild detergent and a rag or chamois-type mop. A sponge mop should be avoided while cleaning a tile floor. Let the floor dry before using it again.

Slate, marble, and granite tiles are cleaned in a different manner. Slate tiles are cleaned using mild detergent and dried using a soft towel. Marble tiles require high maintenance. Avoid harsh detergents and chemicals while cleaning marble tiles. Brushes with tough bristles should not be used as they might leave scratch marks on the tiles.

Granite tile should be cleaned with a mild detergent that is pH-neutral. Keep away from harsh chemicals, which might lead to discoloration on the tile. Polishing the granite floor to give it a shiny and clean look.

Apart from tiles, grout should be cleaned using a natural grout cleaner. Chemicals break the grout. Thus they should be avoided at all costs.

Natural Stone Flooring

Natural stone floors should not be cleaned using vinegar, bleach and ammonia as it could damage stone floors. Mop the floor using a pH-neutral, non-chelating cleaner that doesn’t affect the floor adversely.

Unsealed stone tiles should be mopped using hot water. Also, for stubborn stains and deep cleaning, use a steam cleaner.

To keep your floors looking clean and residue-free, a regular cleaning routine, including dry and wet cleaning, should be followed.

Vacuuming and sweeping should be done every day, while wet cleaning should be done once a week. Finally, hire professional cleaners for deep cleaning the floors.
