The Art Process With Screen Printed T-Shirts

When you have designed your logo or had a professional designer handle it for you, or chosen a t-shirt printing Singapore based company that offers design services, then you need to think about some specific details. It is important that the art is in the right format. It is not as simple as sending in a sketch you made or a picture you found online. Here is a look at some of those formats and what the screen printing production process is after.

Vector

This is usually the most preferred format for artwork with the more common apps being Adobe Illustrator CS3 or before, Macromedia Freehand version MX or before,  Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) or CorelDraw Version X3 or before. To use such art for tshirt printing Singapore the text must be converted to outlines, paths or curves, or all the font files used in the artwork are provided. Before you send the file all raster images need to be embedded or included with the Vector file.

Raster

Raster includes Paint Shop Pro version XL or before or Adobe Photoshop version CS3 or before. It is also important that artwork created this way is 200 DPI at the size you want on the t-shirt. When you take graphics from the web at a screen resolution usually of 72 DPI this is not high enough in resolution as not work well if you want the printing to be high-quality.

Screen printing process

When the artwork is complete in the right format and sent to the printer they then start the process of screen t shirt printing Singapore by separating and printing out each colour. It is printed into a special vellum paper and then each piece goes onto a screen that is coated with an emulsion that is light sensitive. When exposed to white light that emulsion hardens. The screen then goes into a booth and gets coated with water. The result is where the positive art is it does not harden and is washed off leaving just the negative image on the screen.

Each screen is then placed into the screen printing press whether it is a manual or automatic is down to the choice of each printer. Usually, if the printer has an order of 50 or fewer shirts they will choose the manual option, and for more than 50 they use the automatic. Before the shirts get placed onto the press the printer needs to register the design and setup. The ink colour for each screen is placed on the back of it. When it is time to print they use a squeegee and wipe the ink over the screen to fill in the negative image.

When this setup and registration process is complete the t-shirts or garments are put onto the pallets and the image is placed on them. The shirt then needs to go into a dryer that runs as hot as 340 degrees. This heat ensures the ink cures into the shirt and then will not wash or rub off when they are worn. This is the process for screen tshirt printing Singapore.
